Reporting to the VP Consumer Electronics Engineering and working in close cooperation with the Director Rapid Prototyping Group, this position builds-up and manages an engineering team to deliver highly optimized software for embedded products.
Responsibilities:
Engineering Team Management
Builds-up, leads and manages team
- Organically grows Consumer Electronics Engineering team in China
- Oversees software development and QA engineering teams
- Works in collaboration with project leads and program managers to ensure projects are adequately resourced and completed in time
- Participates in management of Asian ODM and JDM relationships
Leadership & Influence
Leads internal and external stakeholders towards common goals
- Communicates regularly with the VP Consumer Electronics Engineering and other key stakeholders on strategic direction, long-term goals, and policy issues
- Stays abreast of new technologies, market trends, changing customer needs, and strategies of competitors
Collaboration & Teamwork
Works with others to develop strategies and approaches that represent the best available solutions
- Works together with the Director of the Rapid Prototyping Group on the alignment with Dolby’s worldwide consumer electronics strategy including project allocation, project milestones and ongoing activities
- Integrates best practices in SW-Engineering from our other Engineering entities in Australia, Germany and the US
- Works closely with Dolby licensing Engineering teams to integrate licensing deliverables into Dolby products
- Builds and develops cross-functional relationships in support of company and project goals
- Works with own team and other key stakeholders outside of Engineering to brainstorm creative answers to key technical challenges and to create plans of action with shared goals
- Experienced in international collaboration and global project work
- Well versed in stakeholder management
- Deep understanding of intellectual property rules and importance
- Works in collaboration with HR department to align with Dolby’s “larger China Strategy”
Personnel Management
Manages the activities of team
- Responsible for hiring process to bring top engineering talent on board
- Coordinates the continuous internal/external training of the teams’ engineering- and language skills
- Manages, coaches, develops, directs and oversees the activities of direct reports
- Performs routine management duties such as new employee training and performance management
- Works with VP Consumer Electronics Engineering to establish and review overall staff priorities, personnel allocation and goals
Administrative
Fulfills all administrative responsibilities in a timely, complete and professional manner.
- Estimates development schedules/costs in collaboration with project managers
- Manages expenses to budget
- Helps formulate, and seeks management approval of, challenging personal objectives, including training objectives, that are well written and that support company and division objectives
Other Responsibilities
- Perform duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or any member of the Dolby management team, subject to approval by direct manager
- Perform tasks necessary to complete performance objectives
Qualifications:
- MSEE, or MSCS or equivalent plus at least 10 years of relevant experience on the job
- Proven managerial skills of leading a team of highly skilled engineers for at least 3 years
- Bi-lingual Chinese / English language skills
- Experience with work in a complex international environment
- Demonstrated ability to create end product deliverables on time and within budget
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with partners, customers, and team members at all levels. Ability to deal with unexpected challenges in a collaborative, professional manner
- Experience with embedded engineering, audio signal processing, mobile development and QA management
- Experience managing the development and timely delivery of software for high volume consumer electronics products
- Experience with having built up a team in China from the ground up is a plus
